Beyond the Surface: Ensure Thermal Efficiency with New-Build Thermography.
Many people choose a new build property assuming the house will be thermally efficient… but that’s not always the case.
New-Build Thermography Surveys.
We offer our “Thermal Lite” service year-round where we inspect the property internally. For a full thermal heat-loss survey (where we check externally too) we only carry this out in the winter.
We have been carrying out thermal heat loss surveys on new build houses for the past 8 years and have discovered hundreds of houses with missing cavity wall insulation, missing or poorly laid loft insulation, thermal bridging, draughts, inefficient heating systems and cold air infiltration.
We are the only nationwide snagging company that is qualified in Building Thermography. This is important because many snagging companies try to copy what we do, but they don’t know what they are doing and are misdiagnosing issues. To do thermal heat loss surveys properly you need to conduct them in the correct conditions, use calibrated high-end thermal cameras and have the knowledge and training to know what to look for / what to discount.
We only carry out thermal heat loss surveys inside year round which is offered when booking a snagging survey as a “Thermal Lite”. If you have lived in your new build property for a while and do not need a snagging survey, you can book a stand-alone full thermal heat loss survey. This is only offered between November and February because we need to ensure the conditions are right externally.

High energy bills can be a nasty surprise in a new build. But what if hidden issues in your insulation or installations are silently draining your wallet? We offer expert thermography surveys to find those unseen culprits, helping you save money on heating bills and ensure optimal home comfort.
Our Full thermal heat loss survey is carried out only during the winter months to ensure the conditions outside are suitable to spot issues such as missing cavity wall insulation. You can book this as a stand alone thermal heat loss survey or at a discounted rate if booking a Snagging Survey or Fundamentals Survey. We cannot carry this out on a Pre Completion inspection.
How it works
Our thermal heat loss surveys are an effective way to identify thermal inefficiencies in new-build properties. We use a high-end Flir thermal camera that is regularly calibrated to check for ‘thermal anomalies’, which can suggest issues ranging from missing cavity wall insulation to air infiltration behind the plasterboard.
To ensure the accuracy of our findings, we arrive around 7 am to avoid any interference from sunlight and to ensure the temperature difference between the inside and outside is significant. The heating will need to be on for a prolonged period before our arrival, especially if there is underfloor heating.
During the survey, we will conduct an external check for missing cavity insulation using a borescope camera, where possible. If we are unable to access certain areas safely, we will recommend further invasive investigation by the developer.
We also carry out an internal heat loss survey, which allows us to identify additional issues such as draughts, cold air infiltration behind plasterboards, missing rigid board insulation, and loft insulation. We will also check radiators and underfloor heating systems for any air pockets or pressure issues.
