Checking whether a wall is ‘square’ is important for a few reasons as shown in the below example photographs from recent snagging inspections. Hard floor coverings with a grout line such as tiles will show clearly walls that haven’t been installed equidistantly. This is the most common cause encountered, but walls that aren’t straight can also have an adverse (and obvious) effect on bowing skirting boards.
Ideally, we recommend booking a professional snagging inspection before the flooring is laid to anticipate problems before it is too late.
Not only do walls not being square often cause an issue aesthetically, but it can sometimes affect wall-mounted fixtures such as sockets and switches not being flush to the wall as shown here from a snagging inspection showing a large gap to the side of this multi-socket.
Additionally (off topic but important why to choose HomeSnag for your snagging survey!) note how the nearby radiator pipe runs directly above the multi socket where the customer would likely drill into the wall to install a wall-mounted TV.
